Plight Of The Cinema

Yes, I know that this is my third post this week. It won't be like this every week but have something on my mind.

I went to see X-Men on Friday. I loved the movie and thought they did a wonderful job staying close to the original comic storyline. Don't worry, I'm not going to tell you about the movie for those still waiting to see it. Be warned, I just found out that there is a small piece at the end of the movie AFTER the credits. I am mad because we left during the credits.

I will say that the movie going experience was less than desired. I went with some friends to Jersey Garden's Loews. I went there for the first time about two years ago and it was really nice. This time it made me not want to go to the movies again. You had the people with babies at a 10:40 p.m. show. Then you had the people who had to respond after each scene not realizing that the buzz of everyone doing this makes it hard to others to pay attention to what is going on at that moment. Then you had the drunken group of guys who you heard entering the theatre talking loud and just being stupid. Why won't people act right in public? I just don't understand. Why can't you go to a movie and enjoy it without country, ghetto, ignorant, drunken, late night baby-carrying people messing the whole experience up? It makes me wonder, how long will it be before people who want to experience the movie, and not hear what the person in row 18 thinks, totally abandon the cinema experience. Will cinema be a thing of the past like the drive-in movies because of rude, inconsiderate people? Will it lead to there being two screens, one that you pay more for in order to keep out the "undesireables" and then the "common" one?

This is part of the reason I stopped going to movies. And i can't help but wonder if it is why if it isn't one reason the box office, in general, has been down over last few years. Is it just that people are getting more rude??

I know exactly what you mean..i think the worst part is the baby's in the theatre at almost midnight.

I look forward to to home theatre Omar in your big mansion. We won't have to worry about rude people. You can even charge admission to help pay for the mansion. LOL

Ty, it is so sad that it has come to this. I've encountered the same experience back in March when I went to the movies with a friend, we went to see "Something New" and boy it was really something ghetto. By the time we walked out of the movie theather I had the sudden urge to scream out my frustration. I mean I had to pay $10.50 to hear people's comments out loud. Can't you shut the hell up for two hours then go to a restaurant with your friends and have your verbal reviews there? I really don't get people, adult movies were never meant for kids either, why do people bring four to five kids ages 5 and up to an adult movie or Pg13/R?
I think they really need to create new rules for parents who try to sneak their kids in theatres

since i was one of the friends that you went with i do agree with you. that was one of the worst experiences that i've had at that particular theater. however, one experience shouldn't ruin my whole out-take on the movie watching experience. you're goin to the movies again, to the same one, because i said so lol.

side note, I HATE CRYING BABIES :-(

Ty i completely understand what you are talking about. I refuse to go to jersey gardens for movies or any inner city movie theartre unless its during the day when i know kids are at school and most people are at work. it used to be taboo to talk when we are in the movies, now its the norm. and i won't start on the ignorant assholes who bring their crying children to the movies because no one wants to watch their bad kids. so now when i want to go out to a night movie, i try to find an isolated spot or go to an upscale neighborhood.

Jay - that is usually what I do. Most of the time I go to Manhattan but it is a shame that we have to.

Are you guys serious ?
Babies ? Why would people take babies with them when they go to the movies ?
What ? I'm lost !

ok... WHAT ? lol

Thanks Soldier . I am down with bringing babies to earlier shows if you just have to. Like you can't find a babysitter or a mother/father wants to take all of their children to the show. However, after around 9 p.m., they need to be in bed.
